Creamy Broccoli Potatoes

This creamy broccoli potatoes dish combines tender potatoes with vibrant broccoli in a velvety sauce. It’s a comforting and nutritious meal that’s perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 600 g potatoes
  • 300 g broccoli
  • 200 ml cream
  • 100 g grated cheese (e.g. cheddar or gouda)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes: Peel 600 g of potatoes and cut them into even pieces (about 2-3 cm). This ensures even cooking. This takes about 10 minutes.
  2. Blanch the broccoli: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add 300 g of broccoli florets and blanch for about 3 minutes. They should be bright green and crisp. Then immediately rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process. This takes a total of about 5 minutes.
  3. Sauté the onion and garlic: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan. Add 1 diced onion and 2 chopped garlic cloves. Sauté over medium heat until translucent (about 5-7 minutes). Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Cook the potatoes: Add the prepared potatoes to the pot of boiling water. Cook for about 15-20 minutes until tender. Test with a fork – they should be easily pierced. Drain the potatoes and let them drain well.
  5. Add the cream: In a bowl, mix 200 ml of cream, 100 g of grated cheese, the sautéed onions, and garlic. Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg.
  6. Combine everything: Mix the drained potatoes and blanched broccoli in a large baking dish. Pour the cream-cheese mixture evenly over the top. Make sure everything is well distributed.
  7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bake the mixture for about 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbling. Keep an eye out for a nice golden crust.
  8. Serve: Remove the creamy broccoli potatoes from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving (about 5 minutes). This allows the consistency to set.
